Sinossi

Randy Green and Tommy Riley are sixth graders living in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1963. Randy is one of the Misfits – smart kids who aren’t showy but who like books and sports. Tommy is one of “The Thugs” – kids who have been held back in school one or two years due to poor grades. But Tommy’s home life has prevented him from excelling in school. He lives with his mother (single mom, alcoholic, hoarder) and his severely disabled younger brother. Over the course of the school year, the two form an unlikely friendship sharing books and football trading cards. Their lives come to a major turning point on November 22, 1963. Both of them get to shake hands with President Kennedy at an outdoor speech in Fort Worth that morning. Hours later, they are both shattered upon learning of Kennedy’s murder just 30 miles away. That horrible event inspired Randy to a lifelong interest and career in politics, but it also caused a family tragedy in Tommy's life that would change him forever.
