Home at last, Taroniah tries to settle back into her normal routine, while getting her metal ships built to take on the Dragoth. She regards the Dragoth as a major threat, but no one else seems to be taking them seriously, apart from those directly subjected to their raids and invasions, that is.
Nothing ever goes according to plan. First, Durnian decides to attack West Dumfordia. Then Princess Portia arrives in Alcitran, a province of West Dumfordia, personally asking for Taroniah's help.
She gets distracted by the subject of liquid metals and how they can be used to predict the weather. Her other pet project, being able to see clearly at a distance using normal means rather than magical, leads to another business venture.
Taroniah realizes she won't be able to build a fleet of the size she really wants in order to take on the Dragoth and will have to make do with half the number she originally intended. This, in turn, raises the question of whether six ships would be enough to face an enemy fleet that had well over a hundred vessels at last count. And if that wasn't enough, she was pregnant again!
