Growing up in South London in the Fifties and Sixties, journalist and author Alan Hurndall saw it all. During his career Alan met royalty, film stars, Prime Ministers and Presidents. He travelled the world writing for newspapers and filming for TV. But he says he owes it all to his so-called ‘deprived’ childhood.
His parents owned a corner kiosk serving the great and the good of Camberwell - saints and sinners alike. His father was a street bookie, gambler and suitcase salesman. The Kid From the Kiosk takes us back to the heart of Cockney London, to the age of pie and mash, jellied eels, Teddy Boys, totters and gangsters. It’s a funny, sad, but honest account of a community now gone, but thanks to works like this, not forgotten.
