Ashok’s Song has always been, first and foremost, a love story, and as Book One: The Singer closed, Cade and Ash found anti-human sentiment rising on Hendeon, and made the difficult decision to depart for Gazaroth. Before they could leave, though, Sackers attacked, the corrupt human Governor of Hendeon botched the defense, their best friend was killed, and in the midst of the fight, they encountered a young human Sacker.
Cade and Ash held their fire. The boy was only fourteen, ragged, hungry, and terrified. Reluctantly, they agreed to see that he got back to his home World of Thalassa. It was only when they were on their way that they discovered who the boy really was.
Now, Cade is committed to caring for the son he never knew he had. Ash wants nothing to do with him. The three of them arrive on Gazaroth with Ash and Cade’s relationship fractured, perhaps irreparably, the boy frightened and silent, and the future looking bleak for all of them. In Gazaroth’s rugged, sparsely populated North Highlands, they meet the Remainders, a religious sect whose ancestors fled Hartgamau centuries earlier. One of them, a beautiful violet-eyed young woman named Verity, is interested in getting to know Ash better.
