The story centers on the Ross family, and specifically their three sons, Harry, Philip and Julius who served with only two of them returning. The book follows their true lives and is as historically accurate as much as possible as the author could discover through his research.

Harry became an MP serving in the Pacific, while Philip was a B-24 Bomber Pilot out of England, and Julius was an Engineer in Europe building bridges among many other jobs. Each of them were exposed to the dangers of war, which put each of their lives in peril, and shows the reader how each of them did their duty.
