Sinossi

'One face with many masks' were the first words uttered by the expert OCD Psychologist at my first group therapy session when describing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. These words set me on my path to recovery, away from the intrusive thoughts and unforgiving rituals OCD had to offer. I share my journey, my daily battles and give access to my therapy notes, which were crucial in building a much needed understanding to develop and deploy the correct behaviour techniques in response to OCD. This book pays particular attention to the E&RP method to adjust our natural and pre-wired human response to intrusive thoughts. The E&RP method gives access to a new way of thinking, retuning our behaviour so normality can be restored. Without a basic understanding and adjustment to behaviour, OCD grows hungrier, demanding more and more of our time. This is my journey, my mask, our face, our Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

During the early stages of my OCD journey I had little idea as to why my behaviour had changed so drastically. Indeed in the weeks leading up to therapy after being diagnosed with OCD, I needed to educate myself and be confident I was not alone with this new challenge I faced. However I struggled to find a book written by someone who had conquered OCD. I needed a real life example of someone who had lived with similar struggles I was experiencing and who had managed, by whatever means, to reach some normality in their life again. The book recommended during group therapy showed little empathy to the reader; it did not relate to the experience first hand. At five-hundred pages long it was cumbersome and large sections of the book remained untouched during therapy.

With all this in mind I have written this book to remain focused and deliver the most crucial information which helped me conquer OCD. I start with my journey and then help you develop that much needed understanding of why OCD exists and how it evolves; showing how small alterations to your behaviour can make the world of difference. If you are suffering with unexplained intrusive thoughts, images or urges and you find yourself having to carry out exhaustive and relentless rituals, physical or mental, then this is the book for you.
