Sinossi

Covid lockdowns have provided time and the catalyst for a heap of memoirs to be written by the already well-known, and Mike Ferguson has put his ‘ordinary’ life into the ring where its candid but also wry and poetic recollections can resonate among the luminaries. Growing up in the American Midwest, he lived briefly in Germany and the UK before leaving family and home, aged 16, to reside permanently in England, escaping a by then alien USA and one redneck death threat. Surviving the freedoms and explorations of an independent life just one year on, eventual farm labouring and study at Oxford led to a 30-year career in teaching English with a continuing transatlantic accent. Framed by the context of some lifetime adversity, a rich array of learning curves – including those about his biological father and two blood siblings (one a whole separate story) – add to the many intriguing vignettes of this reminiscence.

Mike Ferguson is a widely published poet with four recent print collections, including The Lonesomest Sound. He has also written two English subject teaching texts (one co-authored) for national publishers.
