This is a guide for amateur rock collectors like myself, who do not have access to a laboratory to identify their “treasures” scientifically.

A telegram style has been chosen for this compilation, because I wanted to create a practical tool without unnecessary (for the purpose of identification) verbiage.

The most important point is for me, and I would imagine for most amateur rock collectors, that all the easily available information for any one rock is concentrated in one point of reference, obviating the need to acquire and wade through numerous tomes.

There is, to the best of my knowledge, no single information source available concentrating detailed identification facts like in this compilation.
