Life may seem pointless and meaningless but that is not the reality or the truth. It is only what we think or feel. It is an attitude of mind, and no amount of thinking can make things meaningless or absurd as a matter of fact. The evidence used to show the meaninglessness of life comes from interpreting the facts from that point of view. The same facts can be reinterpreted from a more favourable point of view. This book takes this viewpoint and shows how we can actively find meaning in the very fact of our living. This book doesn’t prove that no one’s life is pointless or meaningless. It says only that no one need consider their life to be so. It is a positive state of mind to be cultivated and some hints are given here on how to cultivate that state of mind. At the very least, this book offers words of support and comfort but these words will have no effect unless minds are changed by reading them. However, it may not benefit those who are clinically depressed or are so extreme in their attitudes that no words or arguments can possibly change their minds, at least in the short term. They must seek professional and caring support which this book cannot offer. It is easy to say or to think that life is worth living but it is not easy to believe wholeheartedly that life is worth living. “My life is pointless. It is totally meaningless”. These words express thoughts that might pass through our minds. But these thoughts are not themselves real. They are only what we think about ourselves at one point in time. We can change our minds if we can find reasons in ourselves to think differently about our plight. Some of these reasons are given in this book.
