The Epistle to the Hebrews is an immaculately written exhortation to those Christians who had previously been associated with the tenets of Judaism. So entrenched were they in their former association that some had not genuinely disassociated themselves in the heart. The previous system under which the Israelites labored had become an endearing element in their religious lives. They had lived under this system for about 1500 years. As a result, the transition from the religion of Moses to the religion of Christ was a difficult one.
The profound urgency of the message magnifies the style of exhortation that this epistle embraces. Many were on the brink of apostasy. Yet, in such a delicate way, the writer confronts and attacks tendencies without attacking the people who give into them.
