I specifically bought and studied all the guitar lesson books for kids, and here are the problems I found:
Major and abrupt steps in learning, skipped topics, and, as a result, poor progress in teaching children to play the guitar.
As a professional teacher of guitar and other musical instruments, as well as a psychologist and educational methodologist, I know that in order to play songs on the guitar with ease—even the simplest ones—you need to master 13 basic skills:
And once a child has mastered all these skills, they'll be able to play almost any song with ease!
How many of these skills do you think are covered in the other guitar books for kids sold here?
The best I’ve found covers 5 out of 10 skills, and even then, the explanations are very vague!
:( Imagine you bought any other book that only has 3–7 photos showing how to rest the guitar on your thigh and how to position your right and left hands.
The child tries to place his right arm on the guitar and, after a few minutes, notices that his arm muscles are very tense and he’s tired because he positioned his arm incorrectly. Next, the child tries to play a chord, but can’t do it because the book’s instructions consist of just one step: “Place your fingers as shown in the photo.” The strings are muffled, and the fingers and wrist ache from overexertion. And all because the book provided too few details.
The child with difficulty placed their first chord, and the book is already suggesting they start playing a song. They begin strumming with their right hand and find that the strumming is choppy, with their finger (or pick) slipping under the strings. And all the learning in such books fits into 5–10 pages, 10–20 photos, and a large number of generalizations, gaps, and vague explanations.
:) In my book, I explain all 10 skills. I’ve taken every detail into account and the importance of learning gradually so that children stay engaged and can easily achieve their 1st results right away.
I use over 150 photos and images, along with nearly 50 pages of engaging, structured, and easy-to-understand instructional material, complete with interesting exercises.
:) Imagine you bought my book and the child:
Learned to sit properly so that his back, arms, and neck are relaxed while playing the guitar. He learned to position his right hand correctly on the guitar so that his hand is always relaxed while playing. He learned to pluck and strum the strings. Learned to position their left hand correctly on the guitar neck and mastered the secrets of coordinating the left and right hands to produce a beautiful sound.
Learned to play interesting melodic etudes as early as the 1st or 2nd day of learning and was delighted that you bought them this very book. He learned to play chords. He learned to play songs and was happy that he was succeeding, because this book offers clear, interesting, smooth, and systematic guitar lessons for children.
