An Advanced Lifespan Odyssey for Counseling Professionals covers human development from womb to tomb across all development areas (physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional, career) and reflects the trend toward empirically supported practice in the application of lifespan theories. Each life stage is subdivided into physical development, cognitive development, social/emotional development, and social/career development, as applicable. An engaging writing style and a multitude of real-life examples make the content concrete, understandable, and applicable to the counselor-in-training.
Every chapter includes case studies, reflections, and discussions of current issues, all while focusing on cross-cultural variations and intersections. Descriptions of more than 30 major developmental theories and perspectives, abnormal psychological development, and mental and emotional disorders are integrated. Reflections from counselor and parents give counselors-in-training idea for how the theoretical and content pieces can be incorporated into real-life practice applications. This new edition contains robustly updated sources and references, including CACREP 2024 Standards, to provide the newest and most relevant information.
Comprehensive, accessible, and highly practical in nature, An Advanced Lifespan Odyssey for Counseling Professionals is an essential resource for counselors-in-training, as well as practicing counselors who wish to deepen their knowledge of lifespan development.
