“Strip of Land: A Collection of Poems about Israel" puts to words just a trickle of the ineffable stream of pain that the Jewish people has felt since the Black Sabbath of October 7th. Experiencing the worst assault since the Holocaust, Israel and her supporters have rallied together in unparalleled ways. The signs on the streets, united we will win, match the indomitable heart of the Jewish people. This collection is just one voice reflecting the pain of heartache, unbearable loss, and the spirit of endurance that lives on in the Jewish people.
Rabbi Hanna Yerushalmi, using words like a scalpel to open up the “mourners of Israel” to bear a broken but beating heart, leads us, through her evocative poetry, on a journey of emotional exploration. Using haunting and powerful verses, she artfully depicts the pathos of the Jewish people, capturing the raw pain etched in our collective memory, while not ignoring our tenacity and our capacity to love despite hate and hope amidst despair. This book of poems evokes the searing trauma the Jewish people are enduring following October 7th, while lifting up our resolve to survive, or even more, triumph.
