Senza molte difficoltà, è lecito supporre che la maggior parte delle persone in questo mondo abbia almeno un'occasione impegnata nell'arte senza tempo e nobile di osservare le persone. Che sia in aeroporto durante una lunga sosta, in un ristorante in attesa che si presenti quel pasto in ritardo, in una classe mentre i tuoi compagni di classe e istruttore si presentano dopo che sei già stato lì per almeno dieci minuti o da qualche altra parte, sono momenti come questi che piccoli pensieri iniziano a fluttuare nella tua mente. Questi sono i pensieri che ti piacerebbe scrivere, ma non sempre hai i mezzi o il desiderio di farlo e poi in seguito vorresti avere. Un'altra caratteristica di questi pensieri è che molti di loro si presentano in verbosità che sarebbe troppo imbarazzante per dirlo nella conversazione, ma si presterebbero bene a carta e penna. Per molti versi, è così che è iniziato questo libro, è osservare le persone mentre aspettano qualcosa e poi annotarle prima che si perdessero. In molti casi questi pensieri non avevano nulla a che fare con le persone che vedevo o con quello che stavano facendo, erano solo piccole idee che sceglievano di presentarsi durante i momenti noiosi di una giornata. Questi momenti noiosi includevano anche momenti di blocco dello scrittore che venivano fuori periodicamente mentre lavoravo al mio primo libro, Front Porches to Front Lines, e sono stati usati come un modo per riprendere i succhi creativi per quel progetto. Per qualche ragione, passando a un altro genere di scrittura più leggero, che ha aiutato a riprendere i pensieri per quello che era un progetto più coinvolto e intenso. Speriamo che queste piccole poesie ti daranno un po 'di divertimento mentre coinvolgano anche la tua mente su determinati argomenti in modi che in precedenza non erano stati considerati.

Whether it be at the airport during a long layover, in a restaurant while waiting for that overdue meal to show up, in a classroom while your classmates and instructor file in after you've been there already for at least ten minutes or somewhere else, it's moments like these that little thoughts begin to float across your mind. These are the thoughts that you would love to write down, but don't always have the means or the desire to do so and then later on wish you had. Another characteristic of these thoughts, is that many of them present themselves in verbiage that would be too awkward to say over in conversation, but would lend themselves well to pen and paper. In many ways that is how this book began, is by watching people while waiting for something and then jotting them down before they were lost. In many cases these thoughts had nothing to do with the people who I saw or what they were doing, they were just little ideas that chose to present themselves during a day's dull moments. These dull moments also included moments of writer's block which came up periodically while working my first book, Front Porches to Front Lines, and were used as a way to get the creative juices for that project going again. For some reason, by switching to another, lighter genre of writing, that helped get the thoughts going again for what was a more involved and intense project.
