The Other Things is a work of fiction inspired by John F. Kennedy's 1961 and 1962 speeches launching the mission of sending men to the moon and doing "the other things." But what were the other things? Dr. Dennis Scofield often wondered about that. He meets Dr. Christine Hughes at a conference in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and finds that she has a very personal interest in a project that may have been among the other things. They then meet in Beacon, NY, a family picnic destination for Dennis as a child, but also the site of work Christine did with her father, who was documenting extraordinary cognitive abilities in a cohort of children. Along the way they find her father's journals which bring into question their perspectives of time and reality. Together they try to unravel the mystery of "the other things" and of her father's disappearance some three decades ago.
