Da bambino, Jiang M'n credeva che avrebbe seguito le orme di suo padre e avrebbe guidato l'esercito Sīchóu Shíyóu. Eppure, dopo essere stato rifiutato per motivi al di fuori del suo controllo, Jiang è costretto a lasciare la casa per vergogna. Con nessun posto dove andare e nient'altro che il suo nome, Jiang si reca nella città di Tencauri e si rifugia in una casa da gioco.
Jiang impressiona il proprietario con la sua tavolozza per il vino e gli viene offerto un apprendistato. La semplice idea di abbandonare il suo background militare, tuttavia, lascia un vuoto nella sua anima. Chi è? A dove appartiene? E cosa protegge?
