Sinossi

Intelligence is not computation. It is the architecture of purposeful collapse.

In 1948 Claude Shannon solved the problem of moving information and said plainly that he was setting meaning aside. Seventy-eight years later, we are still building as though someone else picked it up. No one did.

We live with the result. Social media connects us and dissolves community. Financial markets grow assets while wealth stagnates. Artificial intelligence produces fluent hallucination at civilization scale. These are not separate failures. They are one failure repeating, as systems optimize perfectly against measurements that no longer describe what they were built to serve.

Dan Bryant calls this Teleonomic Drift, and he has spent thirty years watching it from inside the institutions where it happened. He was Kodak's primary digital counsel while the company struggled to adapt to a technology it had invented. He represented energy clients across the table from Enron Broadband as it came apart. He built GMAC's international mortgage-finance business from startup to market leader in under a year, sold it to Lehman Brothers in 2007, and was still running it in 2008.

In Architecture of Intelligence, Bryant argues that the crisis of the twenty-first century is not a failure of technology but a failure of architecture. Drawing on quantum physics, evolutionary biology, and systems theory, he introduces the Architecture of Intelligence framework and the Information Liquidity Index, a diagnostic that measures whether a system can still register what it is losing. The findings are uncomfortable. The largest institutions of the digital economy score lowest, and artificial intelligence does not repair a broken architecture. It accelerates one.

From a woodcarver following the grain to the mathematics of the wave function, this is a manifesto for a different kind of engineer. Not an engineer of mechanics, but of meaning.

Informazioni sull'autore

Dan Bryant, JD, MBA, has spent thirty years inside the most consequential institutions during the moments they were tested. He was Kodak's counsel while the company struggled to adapt to a technology it had invented. He represented clients through the collapse of Enron Broadband. He built an international mortgage business at GMAC, sold it to Lehman Brothers in 2007, and was still running it in 2008 when the financial world collapsed. He fought for veterans' benefits when clinical records systems were optimizing billing over patient outcomes, and he has structured capital for small businesses and affordable housing that conventional finance would not reach. Each time, he found the same thing. Financial liquidity only follows information liquidity and high information liquidity is essential to stable, adaptive systems.A lawyer, financier and entrepreneur by training, he is the founder of Information Liquidity Lab and the developer of the Architecture of Intelligence framework and its diagnostic instruments. He lives in Carlsbad, California.
