First released with Windows 2000, Active Directory allows administrators to assign enterprise-wide policies, deploy programs to many computers, and apply updates to an entire organization by storing information and settings in central, organized, and accessible database. In this task-oriented "cookbook," the authors (Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals for Directory Services and for Windows Server- Networking) have assembled some 500 "recipes" they feel address the majority of questions important to those deploying, administering, or automating Active Directory. Some of the topics covered in the text's 23 chapters include: domain controllers and the global catalog; searching and manipulating objects; organizational units; managing users and groups; printers and shared folders; group policy objects; schema administration tasks; site topology; domain issues; security and authentication; logging, monitoring, and quotas; backup, recovery, directory information tree maintenance, and deleted objects; application partitions; Active Directory Application Mode functionality; interoperability and integration; Active Directory Federation Services, Exchange Server 2003; and Microsoft Identity Integration Server.
