This book bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and their implementations, especially for the high-performance structures/components related to advanced composite materials. This work focuses on the prediction of various structural responses such as deformations, natural frequencies etc. of advanced composites under complex environments and/or loading conditions. In addition, it discusses micro-mechanical material modeling of various advanced composite materials that involve different structures ranging from basic to advanced, such as beams, flat and curved panels, shells, skewed, corrugated, and other materials, as well as various solution techniques via analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical approaches.
This book:
This book is aimed at researchers, professionals, and graduate students in mechanical engineering, material science, material engineering, structural engineering, aerospace engineering, and composite materials.
Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamed Thariq Bin Haji Hameed Sultan completed his PhD in 2011 from Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in the Field of Mechanical Engineering. He specializes in the field of Hybrid Composites, Advance Materials, Structural Health Monitoring and Impact Studies. He is also a Professional Engineer (PEng) registered under the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and he is also a Charted Engineer (CEng) registered with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) United Kingdom. Recently, he was also awarded as the Professional Technologist (PTech) from Malaysian Board of Technologist (MBOT). He has published more than 220 journal articles and published almost 15 books internationally.
Dr. Vishesh Ranjan Kar completed his Ph.D. from NIT Rourkela in 2015 as a full-time research scholar (2012-2015) in the field of Computational Solid Mechanics. Currently, he is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Jamshedpur, India. His research interests are Nonlinear Finite Element Method (NFEM), Advanced Composite Structures, Computational Mechanics and Shape Optimization. He authored (and co-authored) over 50 research articles in peer reviewed journals, books and conferences in the field of modeling and analysis of composite structures. Currently, he is handling various research projects as Principle Investigator (and Co-PI) funded by various government agencies. Presently, he is supervising 04 PhD students in the area of advanced composite structures. He is the recipient of Research Award 2016 from VIT University, India; Early Career Research Award 2017 from DST, Government of India; Young Scientist 2019 from Venus International Foundation, India; and Preeminent Researcher Award 2019 from International Institute of Organized Research, India in association with Western Sydney University, Australia. He is a recognized reviewer of many reputed international journals of his domain. He is a life member of Indian Society for Applied Mechanics and few other international engineering societies. His h-index is more than 20 in Google scholar and Scopus.
Dr. Subrata Kumar Panda has defended his PhD thesis in the year of 2009 from IIT Kharagpur Department of Aerospace Engineering in the field of Smart Composite Structures. Currently, he is Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Rourkela, India. His research area comprises of multiscale-multi-physics material modelling and experimental mechanics. He has already published more than 150 articles in peer reviewed international journal including the conference proceeding. He handled three sponsored projects from different Govt. agencies (DRDO, DST and AICTE) as Principal Investigator and two as Co-PI (BRNS, IMPRINT). He has also worked as one of Collaborator from Mechanical Engineering for Centre of Excellence Orthopaedic Tissue Engineering and Rehabilitation. He has already guided eight PhD scholars (six as main/sole supervisor) in different problems relevant to the Smart Composite Structural Modelling and Analysis, Acoustics, Biomechanics. He has also received award of recognition for his contribution in Mechanical Sciences from NIT Rourkela. His h-index is more than 30 in Google Scholar and Scopus.
Dr. Jayakrishna is an Associate professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering at the Vellore Institute of Technology University, India. Dr. Jayakrishna’s research is focused on the design and management of manufacturing systems and supply chains to enhance efficiency, productivity and sustainability performance. More recent research is in the area of developing tools and techniques to enable value creation through sustainable manufacturing, including methods to facilitate more sustainable product design for closed-loop material flow in industrial symbiotic setup, and developing sustainable products using hybrid bio composites. He has mentored undergraduate and graduate students (2 M.Tech Thesis and 24 B.Tech Thesis) which have so far led to 40 journal publications in leading SCI/ SCOPUS Indexed journals, 17 book chapters, and 85 refereed conference proceedings. Dr. Jayakrishna’s team has received numerous awards in recognition for the quality of the work that has been produced. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the manufacturing and industrial systems area and his initiatives to improve teaching effectiveness have been recognized through national awards. He has also been awarded Institution of Engineers (India)-Young Engineer Award in 2019 and Distinguished Researcher Award in the field of Sustainable Systems Engineering in 2019 by International Institute of Organized Research.
