Collated, complete.Weir was known for both his extensive work as an illustrator, and as "The Father of the Cat Fancy", having organised the first cat show in England, at the Crystal Palace, London, in July 1871.This copy includes fables such as "Wolf and the Crane", "Hare and the Tortoise", "Vine and the Goat", Old Hound", "Fox and the Leopard", "Hare and the Hound", "Wolf and the Shepard", "Dove and the Crow", among many others.Aesop was a storyteller who is thought to have lived in ancient Greece around the 6th century BCE. He is best known for his collection of fables featuring anthropomorphic animals that illustrate moral lessons of honesty, wisdom and kindness. Illustrated with four colour plates and one hundred and fourteen in-text images. Collated complete. A collection of three hundred of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Translated by George Fyler Townsend, a British translator noted for the standard English edition of Aesop's Fables. Illustrated by Harrison William Weir, a British artist. With a clamshell bound by Eric Sweet, a keen collector of private press and fables. He studied at the Brighton College of Art, before moving to London to work as a lettering artist and typographer for advertising agencies, later becoming the head of Birmingham School of Printing. Sweet's bindings are unique and striking, reflecting the topics of the volumes in distinctive style. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities.
