When things seem too good to be true, they usually are.
Alice is finding her feet managing the Sail Loft Hotel when Sam is presented with an offer he can’t refuse. The bad news is, if he says yes, he will have to leave Cornwall.
Sam’s visits home see him split in his loyalties between his daughter Sophie, and spending time with Alice. Sophie’s mother, Kate, seems to be doing her best to make things difficult.
Meanwhile, Alice’s friend Julie is also facing a long-distance relationship as her new partner, and Sam’s best friend, Luke, is working in London. With no children to think of, and plenty of disposable income (on Luke’s part at least), life should be more simple but Julie has yet to find a long-term job and Luke is still getting over the recent death of his mother.
Can these fledgling relationships pass the long-distance test, and can Julie and Alice make life in Cornwall work for them now that the summer sun has gone?
A Second Chance Summer begins this much-loved series, which is already twelve books long - with the promise of more to come.
"This is a wonderful sequel to A Second Chance Summer. Katharine E Smith does not make the mistake of making life unbelievably 'happy ever after.' Alice and Sam have hurdles to face and as usual Kate seems to be getting in the way. This is not just a book about a new romance. It is about Alice and Julie finding their feet in a new town and learning what it is really like in a busy tourist destination when you are not there on holiday.Just as in the first book, you really get a feel for what life is like in Cornwall - how wonderful it is to be able to walk on the beach - how different a town with summer tourists is to the winter season when the town is quiet and peaceful. Alice has to learn how to cope on her own, how to manage the staff at the hotel and how to be the perfect friend to little Sophie.I cannot wait for the next in the series."
"Another great read. I've been waiting for this to come out then devoured it in two days and now I've got to wait for the next one to hear what happens next. Hope there's plenty more in the series."
"Having read all of Katharine's other books I was excited to be able to read this one as a beta reader for Kath. Well I wasn't disappointed. It was fantastic and I couldn't put it down once I had started. I was hoping for a happy ending but the way that the story was written has left it open for a third and I can't wait!! I love the style in which the book is written, it allows you to feel like you're part of the story in the beautiful place of Cornwall. Well done Katharine, another superbly written book."
"After reading book one in this series I was very much looking forward to book two being released. Another fantastic and enjoyable read. I love the way the author turns this around from your usual, predictable love story. When Alice and Sam exchange Christmas gifts my thoughts were please don't let it be an engagement ring (the predictable cheesy ending) and what a cliffhanger of an ending. I can't wait for the series finale now and have learnt from the author not to expect or predict anything. . . ."
"Katharine Smith has once again written a book that entertains, without taking itself too seriously. I enjoyed After The Sun just as much as the first book, A Second Chance Summer, although in different ways; knowing the characters already meant my focus was on getting to know them better and it was great to see the relationships progress within a more normal day to day rhythm. I couldn't put it down and read it as voraciously as the first book!"
