Language: English. About The Book: On Alexander’s Track to the Indus by Aurel Stein is a gripping personal narrative of his 1905–1906 expedition tracing the route of Alexander the Great through the rugged terrain of the North-West Frontier of India (now Pakistan). Blending historical inquiry with adventurous travel, Stein investigates ancient sites, inscriptions, and local traditions to map Alexander’s path toward the Indus River. The book combines meticulous archaeological observations with vivid descriptions of the landscape, people, and challenges faced during the journey. It serves as both a scholarly exploration of classical history and an engaging travel memoir, revealing Stein’s deep passion for uncovering the ancient past. About The Author: Aurel Stein (1862–1943) was a Hungarian-British archaeologist renowned for his pioneering explorations in Central and South Asia. His major works include Kalha?a's R?jatara?gi??, a translation and study of Kashmir's historical chronicle, and Ancient Khotan, a detailed archaeological report on Silk Road sites. In Sand-Buried Ruins of Khotan and Ruins of Desert Cathay, he vividly describes his excavations of long-lost Buddhist cities. Innermost Asia and On Alexander's Track to the Indus further document his extensive travels through remote regions. Stein combined archaeology, philology, and geography, contributing profoundly to the understanding of ancient Asian civilizations and Silk Road cultures.
