Recensione: Eines der erfolgreichsten Schlagzeuglehrbücher feiert seinen 25. Geburtstag: 'Alfred's Drum Method'. Der erste Band setzt sich mit Rudimental-, Roll-Studies, Soli u.v.m., der zweite Band mit Traditional-Rudiment-, Orchestral-Style und verschiedenen Percussiontechniken u.v.m. auseinander. Band 1 erschien ursprünglich 1987. Von Anfang an war ein Video Bestandteil des Unterrichtsmaterials. Seit 2004 wird es von einer DVD begleitet. Der zweite Band erschien ein Jahr später und bekam 2004 ebenfalls ein DVD-Update. Entwickelt aus dem Concert-Band- und Marching-Kontext, vermitteln die Bücher - zeitlos - alles an Wissen und Technik, was auch für Rock- und Jazzmusik von Bedeutung ist. Seither ist viel passiert im Drum-Lehrbuch-Dschungel, aber 'Alfred's Drum Method' war zuerst da und definierte Standards. Die DVDs übernehmen den Inhalt der originalen VHS-Videos; pädagogisch immer noch hochaktuell, technisch eher mit historischem Charme. Dave Black, Jay Wannamaker und der inzwischen verstorbene Sandy Feldstein waren und sind allesamt verdiente und hochdekorierte Musiker, Autoren, Pädagogen und leitende PAS-Mitglieder.
