Riassunto:

Alkaline Fuel Cells: Fundamentals, Design, and Applications bridges the gap between fundamental knowledge and the practical skills needed to address real-world challenges in alkaline fuel cells. The book provides readers with the essential information needed to understand, design, and implement efficient low-temperature and high-temperature alkaline fuel cell systems. Sections introduce alkaline fuel cells, with a discussion on mass transport phenomena. Subsequent chapters delve into the mechanisms, classification, design, and challenges of alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction catalysts and alkaline oxygen reduction reaction catalysts. The book also covers the synthesis, properties, and perspectives of anion exchange membranes for alkaline fuel cells. Further, it addresses cell design and stack engineering, performance testing and characterization techniques, and advanced theoretical modeling of alkaline fuel cells. It also explores liquid fuels and their applications in transportation and beyond. The book concludes with a global overview of market dynamics, the impact and future opportunities of government policies, and future perspectives.

Informazioni sugli autori: Dr. Liang An received his Bachelor degree in Thermal and Power Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology and PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). After graduation, he worked as a visiting scholar and a postdoctoral fellow in the same research group. His research interests are in the area of clean energy-conversion technologies and renewable energy-storage technologies. His research interests include fuel cells and batteries.

Professor Zhefei Pan received the BS degree (2015) and the MS degree (2017) in School of Energy Science and Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, and PhD degree (2021) in Department of Mechanical Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. After working as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the same department for 3 years, he currently is a Professor at Chongqing University. Professor Pan has nearly 10-year experience in experimental and numerical investigations on fuel cells and electrolyzers. Scientific interests are direct liquid fuel cells fueled by ammonia and ethylene glycol and electrochemical production of chemicals such as ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. More than 40 publications have been published, including Progress in Energy and Combustion Science and ACS Energy Letters.

Professor Rong Chen received the BS degree (2000) and the MS degree (2003) in School of Energy and Power Engineering from Chongqing University, and PhD degree (2007) in Mechanical Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He did his postdoctoral research in the same place. He was appointed the visiting assistant professor for Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2008-2009. He joined the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Chongqing University in 2010. Currently, he has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in the international journals. His research interests mainly cover the solar utilization by photochemistry, optofluidics, new energy technologies, micro-scale transport and interfacial phenomena as well as the heat/mass transport in porous media.
