Hardcover. "Alma Roma" is an evocative exploration of the Eternal City, blending historical narrative with detailed travel observation to provide a comprehensive portrait of Rome. Written by Albert G. Mackinnon, this work serves as both a scholarly guide and a literary tribute to the enduring spirit of one of the world's most significant cultural capitals. The narrative takes readers on a journey through the many layers of the city's past, from the monumental grandeur of Classical Rome to the ecclesiastical influence of the Vatican and the vibrant energy of the early 20th-century era.The text provides insightful descriptions of Rome's most famous landmarks, including the Forum, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon, while also delving into the artistic treasures housed within its countless churches and galleries. Mackinnon's writing is marked by a deep appreciation for the city's archaeological significance and its foundational role in Western civilization. Ideal for students of history, classicists, and armchair travelers, "Alma Roma" offers a unique perspective on the city during the interwar period, capturing a specific moment in time when ancient ruins and modern life coexisted in a rapidly changing landscape. It remains a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand the "soul" of Rome through its architecture, art, and historical evolution. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
