Chapter One
Always, Yes Always, EXPECT Miracles!
It's more than just positive thinking. But that's a start. It's more than just trying to be consciously aware and live in the present moment. But that's a beginning. It's more than being happy and singing your song. It's more than waking up and thanking the Universe for yet, another glorious day. But that helps.
It's much more than having those 'aha' moments, and revisiting them over and over in your mind. But visualization is a key factor. It's much more than the feeling you get inside that melts your heart and fills you with love. But you're getting hotter.
It's much more than feeling immense joy, you can almost taste it. But you're so close. It's much more than hearing the music before you begin to play. But you get the idea. It's much more than seeing it clearly in your mind, before it materializes. But that's only part of it. It's much more than believing you deserve this happiness life is bringing you. Oh, but now you're really close.
It's much, much more than experiencing one little coincidence in life. But then you start to see. It's much, much more than things going your way. But then you start to open your eyes. It's much, much more than books, and people appearing in your life when you most need them. But now you start opening your mind. Yes, it's much, much more than all of these things.
If you allow yourself to consciously become aware of all of these things combined. You'll know there are no coincidences in life. Only Miracles. And as you count these miracles in your daily life, as you would your blessings, you'll begin to experience more.
Funny thing is, you start to change your thinking. Yes, your thoughts are much more positive than before. Your words are different. More empowering. Your actions seem to reflect what greatness you are thinking. And you know. Yes, you now know. That you are powerful!
You are great! You can attract whatever you focus on the most. That's the secret. The key to all mankind. It's the Law of Attraction. And once you have a glimpse of the results of using that powerful law in your own life, you'll be infected. That's right. Infected and contagious!
Not only now, are you an infectious virus, but you have the power to spread through millions and millions of people. When you realize how magnificent you are and how powerful your feelings are, you are in total alignment of your thoughts. Hold on to your feelings and live them now. This is the 'Force of Love.' The Power. The Secret you have been longing to learn.
It's much more than all of the stuff we started to list. Yes, it's all of that and more. When we begin to vibrate on a different level of consciousness. Yes, when we can be happy all the time. When we can turn around any negative thought to a positive one. When we can anticipate the goodness in every circumstance. When we can simply EXPECT the best in every one and thing. Then we can attract miracles in our own lives.
So what are you waiting for? Set yourself up for the best life you can possibly enjoy. Hold the highest expectations. Don't settle for less.
And Always, Yes Always, Expect Miracles!
Chapter Two
Knowledge Is Power!
Or is it? I prefer to believe 'knowledge is POTENTIAL power'.
Ignorance is not an excuse. Granted. And Yes, usually the more you know, the better it is. But not always.
Look at the countless reminders of famous people who got where they are without formal education. Think of the rich and famous, many of them came from poor families and incurred hardship along the way. The knowledge of school smarts simply wasn't theirs' to use.
Remember the old serenity prayer? It goes something like this: 'Grant me serenity to change the things I can, courage to accept the things I can't, and wisdom to know the difference.'
Aha. That's it. And wisdom to know the difference. Wisdom seems to be more complete. I think I'd rather be wise than smart or knowledgeable.
After all, Lord David Cecil, an English writer at the turn of the century once said, "The first step to knowledge is to know that we are ignorant." Think about it. Usually the first person, who blurts out their comment about anything, doesn't have a clue. More certain than not, it's subjective and not conscious. They are simply talking because they enjoy hearing themselves. We are simply listening and painfully wondering what the hell they are they talking about! Yup, no knowledge there, just ignorance.
Eckhart Tolle puts it plainly, "Wisdom is not a product of thought. The deep knowing that is wisdom arises through the simple act of giving someone or something your full attention. Attention is ... consciousness itself." Couldn't have said it better myself!
Yes, knowledge is power. But you have to be conscious of it, give it attention. And you have to know how to use it. Serenity, I suppose. So, you too, must do your research. Don't accept the first catchy phrase as gospel. Go beyond the obvious. Read more. Listen more. Not to others, to yourself. Listen within.
I believe my university education provided me with more open doors and yes, knowledge. My stroke erased that education from my mind. Through the years, I learned to use books to my advantage. Not because I had to read them for a grade. But because I was curious for answers. Some of you share that mind space.
Many of us read in quest for knowledge. Many books bring us a little bit closer to the answers. Some of the authors lead us off the beaten path. Some of the things we read are so farfetched we wonder why we've got the time on our hands in the first place to read this. Some books we choose to read over and over again because they make sense.
Yes, the joys of knowledge. In our society, sometimes there is too much 'knowledge 'out there. I find it's more peaceful and still to close the doors to the world for awhile, and just read and listen. You'll find wisdom comes with the ability to be still.
I think I would rather be wise than know everything. How 'bout you?
Chapter Three
Feel the Fear, and do it anyway ...
Ever stop to think, and forget to start again? No, really. As funny as it sounds, it all begins here. Thoughts become things. So simple, but so true.
Did you know that an average person experiences 60,000 + thoughts a day? Better yet, 80% of them are negative and about yourself. Think for a moment.... When the alarm clock goes off in the morning, and that tiny little voice says, 'just another 10 minutes'. You find your rushing in the morning, you skip breakfast, again that little voice says, 'you are going to be late, hurry and skip eating'. How about the famous one, 'don't, do that, it's too risky'. Whether our subconscious is warning us of the fear of riding a bike, or learning German, or making a business investment or starting a weight program or whatever, we are all bombarded with these thoughts. Now that we all recognize these feelings, what do we do?
First step is Awareness. Actually, stop and think. I didn't say reason or rationalize (rationalize stands for 'rational lies' ... how many times do you talk yourself out of something because you're afraid?) Just be aware of these feelings, and know that they are natural. Everyone has them. Like I said, research shows us that we have over 60,000 thoughts a day on average and most of them are negative.
Second step ... Understand. Your brain is actually doing what it is supposed to do. Technically stated, it's called the 'reticular activation system'. A part of your brain is consciously letting you know that what you are contemplating is 'out of your comfort zone' and maybe risky. Everything you're afraid of is learned behaviour. We are all born fearless. Fear is a learned behaviour, engrained through conditioning and repetition.
Third step ... Recondition. Now that you understand why you are experiencing these thoughts and haven't lost it completely, you can start retraining your brain. That's right, reconditioning your thoughts. Simply put, talk to yourself. Yup, you read that right, it's called self-talk. Most successful people use this technique several times daily. In fact, many experts on personal development recommend self-talk.
Since the brain responds to rhythm the most, they recommend a brief sentence, with a jingle to it, and sing it to yourself, out loud with emotion if you can, 20 times a day until it is natural. Yup, just like school, but don't memorize it, learn it and more importantly, imply it. Upon recollection, I'm sure you don't experience the same fear you once did when you entered the water. You probably love being in the water now and can swim without thinking. Why? Because you reconditioned your brain, through positive self — talk and through repetition.
So, when you know what you really want but then fear sets in and suddenly you freeze up remember what someone once said, 'everything worth having and doing, is right out of your comfort zone'. Breathe, and push forward.
So once you are financially free and have a successful business, or you lost the weight and feel fantastic, or you can speak fluent German ... you seldom think about it because it becomes second-nature. Like the experts say and we truly know when we actually do it, feel the fear, and do it anyway.
Yes, 'recondition' those 'unlimiting beliefs'. If you aren't sure it is a belief or the truth, ask yourself ... does it serve me well? If it does, keep it. If it doesn't, you got it ... toss it out. And maybe it just needs polishing up, so take it off the shelf and use it for awhile and see. Everyone should do this conscious mental housecleaning once in awhile.
We are so bombarded with limited thinking, we don't even know it. 'Don't do this, or that, you shouldn't think like that'....
If we all believed everything our ego told us, we would stay locked up inside the house for fear of what is out there. Yup, you can laugh at yourself. You're allowed. In fact, don't take life so seriously.
You deserve to be happy and are entitled to it. If it isn't fun, don't do it. If it is necessary and not much fun, hurry up and do it so you can have fun. Yup, lighten up. And for God's sake, live in the present moment. Plan for the future and reminisce about the past, but don't dwell in either. Live in this present moment. You can create so much happiness here. And the best part is, when you do this, you are setting all your tomorrows up for happiness. That's right. Remember it.
Next time you hear that little voice, with those limiting beliefs, say quietly under your breath, 'thank you for sharing', and most often than not, do the opposite. Other people may think you're talking to yourself, but I promise I won't laugh; it will be our 'little secret'. And soon you will see the positive changes beginning to happen because you dared to think consciously and then took action.
Chapter Four
"Yes, Projection Makes Perception."
Exactly! Just as Marianne Williamson says, we simply decide what we want to see, before we see it. Yes, before we see it. (Yeah right!) Think about it.
Let me share a story with you. My daughter, Chloe was having trouble with one of her classmates. 'He is always picking on me. He calls me names. Everyone hates him! He's a bully.' I thought a minute before I responded. Sounds like he's scared. His fear of being rejected made him act that way. Hmmm ... what advice should I offer her. How can I say it so a 10 year old will understand?
Show him love. (Are you crazy?) 'I just want him to leave me alone. I don't want to talk to him. I certainly don't want to be nice to him!' she said. Point taken. We could all relate to this at some point in time. 'Just be nice to him, compliment him and be his friend. And you'll see, he will be nice to you.'
She shook her head and left the room. A few days later, at dinner, I remembered this. I asked her about this classmate, since she never mentioned him again. 'Oh we're friends now. He's nice to me', she said. I smiled inside.
'I did like you said and it worked!' she said. 'Remember when you said, you get what you give, it's something like that'. It was at that point, I knew she knew.
She knew that in order for him to change, she had to change. It's like looking in a mirror. Everything we do and say, projects perception. Yes, it is all about me. Sometimes, usually more than we like to admit, what we project, directly affects the situation. Was it something she said? Was it her tone? Don't think so.
It was her willingness to perceive the situation (person) with compassion. With love. (Laugh if you will. Behind all this fluff, is reality.)
The minute we change our perception and open our hearts, life changes. We see things that we're already there. How come I missed that, when I've travelled down the street everyday for years? Or how come you've changed when I have been friends with you forever? Because you noticed. Consciously aware. Yep, that's it.
When you approach life with an open heart and an open mind, you take conscious responsibility for your own life. You are able to decide what and how you wish to see the world, from the present moment forth. It's neat! It took me 40 years fighting against life, to understand this. The moment you 'let go', the moment you surrender to a Higher Self or Cause, life changes.
Yes, how empowering to know we have the power to decide. We can choose for ourselves. We can decide if the glass is half empty, or half full. We can decide if it's going to be a great day. We can decide if we're going to smile. Yes, we get to choose what we want to project in every situation. How powerful we are!
If we were all willing to shift our thinking. Change our perception. Love instead of hate. We could solve the worlds' chaos. It all begins with our own perception. Our own inner peace. Peace stems from forgiveness. Like Marianne Williamson believes, 'it's not from the love we're denied by others, but from the love we deny them'.
I remember reading about Mother Theresa and this sums it up. She was saying how she wasn't going to attend a anti-war pep-rally. Call it a pro-peace rally and I'll be there in a heartbeat, was her response. Exactly. Point taken. We must change our own perception, in order to change the world.
Chloe tried it. And at 10 years old, she proved it works! Maybe if we all chose to perceive all that is good, it would be. It most certainly, could be.
Change your perception, and you change your life!
Chapter Five
Give Yourself the 'Gift of Permission' ...
10 days 'til Christmas! Yippee! Can't wait. Yes, I'm like a kid at the candy store. I love Christmas!
December 1st and the outside lights come on. Yup, our tree is decorated and the gifts are wrapped underneath. The smell of gingerbread cookies, hot out of the oven.... oh, I do enjoy the fuss. My hubby gets mad, because I let the kids unwrap gifts as they come in. He says, I'm just like a kid, can't wait until Christmas to open presents! Maybe? But I think it's more fun to celebrate Christmas through the entire month, not one day.
The week before the 24th, I allow the kids to open up presents each night. One night we open up gifts from my grandparents, and enjoy them. That way the kids know who gave them what, and get to play with it. The next night, we open up gifts from someone else. Of course, on Christmas Eve we open up our gifts and wake up Christmas morning and if we were good, and only if we were good, we get to see what Santa left us in our stockings. It's our tradition.
I grew up, in a family where the Christmas trees went up shortly after Hallowe'en and didn't come down 'til Easter! I guess my mom, liked Christmas and all the trimmings too! And while I don't enjoy Christmas for six months straight, I do like to celebrate it for one month. And enjoy the spirit of giving throughout the year!
