Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

(FLAMMARION, Camille) "Another World Inhabited Like Ours, Description of the Planet Mars--Discovery of its Satellites" in "Scientific American Supplement," New York, 10 May 1879, volume 7 #175, pp 2777-2792 in the issue, with the Flammarion on pp 2787-2788. 16"x11". This is the full weekly issue of the Supplement. It is folded in half and has some short tears here and there along the spine, including a half-inch tear in the text of the Flammarion. The Supplement is difficult to find as single unbound issues like this. GOOD condition, a 4-5 or so out of 10. [++] Flammarion was a prolific and gifted science communicator and writer (for example, his book "The Plurality of Inhabited Worlds" written in 1862 was very popular and a best seller) who in this article continues his speculation on expansive other-than-Earth life, theorizing on the existence of life on Mars. He writes, "But of all the studies made during these later years, the telescopic examination of the planet Mars offers us the most immediate confirmation of the existence of life beyond our globe. This neighboring world, indeed, presents analogies of the greatest similarity with our own. By its situation, we are permitted to observe its surface under the best of conditions for study, and the telescope detects configurations which denote the closest relationship of this globe with the one we inhabit."--Flammarion, from the article.
