"Applied Refraction" is a comprehensive clinical guide dedicated to the practical application of optical principles in the diagnosis and treatment of visual defects. Written by Homer Erastus Smith, this foundational text bridges the gap between theoretical physics and clinical practice, providing a systematic approach to the measurement of refractive errors. The work covers essential topics such as the physiology of vision, the mechanics of lenses, and the specific techniques required for performing accurate eye examinations.

The book details rigorous methods for identifying and correcting common conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. It emphasizes the importance of precision in prescribing corrective lenses and explores the intricate relationship between the anatomy of the eye and its refractive power. Smith's approach is designed to be accessible yet scientifically grounded, ensuring that the practitioner can apply complex optical theories to real-world patient care.

This treatise serves as an informative resource for those interested in the history of ophthalmology and the evolution of vision science. Through its clear explanations and focus on clinical utility, "Applied Refraction" remains a significant contribution to the literature of ocular health and diagnostic optics.
