This work presents a detailed chronological overview of major international Architectural Competitions organized over the past 200 years - including the White House in Washington, the Houses of Parliament in London, the new Reichstag in Berlin, the Chicago Tribune Tower, the Centre George Pompidou in Paris and the Tokyo City Hall Complex. The 20th-century specialists in architectural competitions that are discussed in this text include Eero Saarinen and Alvar Aalto. Examples of contemporary architects whose names repeatedly crop up in international competitions include Rem Koolhaus, Norman Foster and Aldo Rossi. This illustrated book offers a review of the architectural landmarks of the contemporary map and aims to draw attention to the significance of competitions for shaping architectural history.
