No Flaws or Blemishes but minimal shelf handling; Still Gift Quality. 9.75 inches tall; 218 pages with Chapter Notes, Glossary and Index. illustrated with b/w photography and drawings. This work offers a profound analysis of the architectural and symbolic significance of the Athenian Acropolis, one of ancient Greece's most iconic sites. By examining structures such as the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheion, it explores how their design reflects the ideals of Athenian democracy, power, and religious devotion. Rhodes investigates how these buildings served not only as religious centers but also as symbols of Athenian identity and pride. He delves into symbolism within their architectural features, such as proportions, decorative elements, and the relationship between the built environment and the sacred landscape. The study highlights how the Acropolis was carefully designed to communicate the values and aspirations of ancient Athens. Combining architectural analysis with cultural and historical insights, this work provides valuable perspectives on the Acropolis' role as both a physical and symbolic heart of Athenian life. Subjects: Athenian Architecture, Ancient Greek Culture, Classical Archaeology, Symbolism in Architecture, Architecture, Ancient History, Classical Studies.
