In the post-colonial era, the boundaries of art which traditionally supported the white Western male have been slowly eroded, allowing a wider range of voices to be heard. But how deep has such a change gone, and is a genuine multicultural approach possible within the terms of the institution of art? This issue discusses the local and the global in the art of an era where we are seeing the rise of nationalism, mass migration and socioeconomic globalization. With writing by artists, poets and critics, including John Berger, Nestor Garcia-Carclini, Jimmie Durham, Irit Rogoff and Juan Davila, this book offers a broadly illustrated account of the conflicts in this area that are of crucial concern today.
