Hardcover. "Arthur Letts 1862-1923: A Biography" offers a detailed exploration of the life and career of one of the most prominent business figures in the early history of Los Angeles. Authored by William H.B. Kilner, this narrative traces the journey of Arthur Letts from his English roots to his arrival in California, where he would eventually establish The Broadway Department Store and play a pivotal role in the success of Bullock's. The work highlights Letts's exceptional acumen for retail and his visionary approach to urban development. It provides an in-depth look at his contributions to the growth of Southern California, including his instrumental role in the planning and development of the Holmby Hills and Westwood neighborhoods. Furthermore, the biography examines Letts's personal character, his involvement with the Boy Scouts movement, and his commitment to various civic and horticultural interests. As a record of a transformative era in American commerce, "Arthur Letts 1862-1923: A Biography" captures the spirit of enterprise that defined Los Angeles at the turn of the century.
