Neuware - 'Ashanti' is an essential ethnographic study that provides an in-depth exploration of the Ashanti people and their complex social systems in West Africa. Written by R. S. Rattray, a pioneering figure in African anthropology, the work meticulously documents the traditions, laws, and religious beliefs of the Ashanti nation during the early 20th century. Rattray's research covers a wide array of topics, including the sacred significance of the Golden Stool, the intricacies of matrilineal descent, and the hierarchical structure of Ashanti governance. The text is particularly valued for its detailed look at the religious practices and spirit cults that shaped daily life and political decisions within the empire. By gathering firsthand accounts and observing traditional ceremonies, Rattray preserved a wealth of cultural knowledge regarding the Akan people and their ancestral heritage. This volume serves as a critical historical record for anyone interested in West African history, cultural anthropology, and the enduring legacy of the Ashanti. Its scholarly rigor and dedication to recording indigenous perspectives make it a cornerstone of African studies, offering profound insights into the social fabric of one of the continent's most powerful historical states. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
