Arnold Sommerfeld (1868-1952) was professor of theoretical physics in München. He gathered a large number of students and disciples forming the largest school of physicists since the days of Hermann Helmholtz. Through his fundamental researches and discoveries it was he - and especially by means of his famous work "Atombau und Spektrallinien" - that helped to diminish the boundaries between chemistry and physics. It is the best known reference work on the subject all over the world; it has been reprinted in various editions and translated into English, French and Russian. The First Edition is very rare.
