Throughout this guide, you will learn how to navigate the AutoCAD environment, create and save drawings, work with coordinates, use fundamental drawing and editing commands, organize designs with layers, add accurate dimensions and annotations, and prepare drawings for printing and sharing.
You will also be introduced to more advanced concepts as you progress, including blocks, reusable drawing elements, layouts, viewports, basic 3D concepts, and techniques for working more efficiently.
The goal is not simply to show you where different buttons are located. It is to help you understand why you are using a particular tool and when that tool is useful.
For example, when you learn how to draw a line, you will also learn how AutoCAD determines where that line begins and ends. When you learn about dimensions, you will understand how they communicate measurements rather than simply learning how to place a dimension on the screen. When you learn about layers, you will see how they help keep complicated drawings organized and easier to edit.
This approach will help you develop skills that remain useful as you move from simple exercises to larger projects.

You Do Not Need to Memorize Every Command
AutoCAD contains a very large collection of commands and features. As a beginner, this can make the software appear more complicated than it really is.
You should not try to memorize everything.
In everyday AutoCAD work, you will repeatedly use a relatively small collection of fundamental commands. As you gain experience, you will naturally learn additional tools when a particular project requires them.
It is much more useful to understand a command well than to memorize the name of dozens of commands without knowing when to use them.
You will therefore encounter important commands repeatedly throughout this guide. Repetition is intentional. Seeing a command used in different situations helps you understand its purpose and makes it easier to remember.
You will also learn that AutoCAD often provides several ways to perform the same task. A command might be available through a ribbon button, a menu, a shortcut, or the command line. You do not have to use every method. The important thing is to understand the task and become comfortable with the method that works best for you.
