Dr Bindeshwar Pathak is known all over the world for his unparalleled contribution to the realm of sanitation in India and abroad, but what is not highlighted enough is his role as a great social reformer. This book brings forth some of the lesser known facets of Dr Pathak and his leadership of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation. The book also unravels the workings of Sulabh's sanitation movement, the sociology of sanitation, action sociology, global challenges of sanitation and how Sulabh has gone about accomplishing a drastic change in society. The life of Dr Pathak as a great humanitarian and his new philosophy of 'temple of gratitude' holds important lessons for healthcare providers, social workers, sanitation personnel, students, teachers and researchers. Additionally, because sanitation, health and development are the three interrelated issues in the present development scenario, the book will be of immense value for policymakers, planners, administrators, activists, governmental agencies and NGOs for planning and implementing suitable programmes for socio-economic development.
