The authors, who are electrical engineers, offer a book on basic radar analysis, based on lecture notes from a three-course sequence taught by Budge. They introduce basic radar analysis, including the definitions of radar-related terms; the derivation of the radar range equation and its parameters; radar cross section; noise, noise temperature, and noise figure; losses; the detection of target signals embedded in noise; and matched filter theory and its extension to the ambiguity function. They then discuss analysis of phased array antennas and signal processing and advanced topics like stretch processing, phase-coded waveforms, synthetic aperture radar processing, space-time adaptive processing, and sidelobe cancellation. Updated and expanded, this edition adds new chapters on CFAR (constant false alarm rate) theory and processing and active electronically scanned (steered) array (AESA) theory and implementation. It divides the chapter on signal processing into seven shorter chapters and adds new information and examples. It also includes discussion of the relation between the array aperture function and the discrete Fourier transform and how the fast Fourier transformer could be used to generate aperture functions of linear and planar phased arrays. It moves discussion of the aperture function generation method to an appendix, and it addresses the impact of Doppler frequency from the stretch processing perspective rather than the matched filter perspective in the first edition. It also includes new material on Costas frequency coding; an expanded discussion of digital down conversion, CIC (cascaded integrator-comb) filters, and decimation; and an example of a two-loop Howells-Applebaum sidelobe cancellation. Informazioni sull?autore: Mervin C. Budge has spent much of his career as the chief scientist of Dynetics, Inc. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Alabama, Huntsville, where he teaches courses in radar, signal processing, and Kalman filters. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University. Shawn German works as a senior principal engineer at Dynetics. His areas of expertise include simulation and modeling, phased arrays, radar receivers, advanced signal processing, and detection theory. He received his M.S. and B.S. in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University.
