In 1573, thirteen-year-old Erzsébet Báthory gives birth to a daughter history must never know existed.
Before sunrise, the child is gone.
Her name is Ilona.
Years earlier, in the court of Catherine de’ Medici, Nostradamus had already written of a hidden daughter from an eastern house—a bloodline whose flesh would one day refuse age, death and decay.
Catherine wants the secret before it has even been discovered.
She is not the last.
What begins with whispered remedies, experimental medicine and one concealed child becomes something far more dangerous: a treatment capable of changing the natural course of human life.
But it is not immortality.
Everything dies.
Some people simply stop dying when they should.
Across centuries of European history, the descendants of the Bathory bloodline survive kings, queens, plague, fire, war, medicine, superstition and the increasingly inconvenient habit of governments keeping records.
Names change.
Mothers become daughters.
Brothers become nephews.
Families move before neighbours notice that the faces in old portraits have not aged.
And behind every new identity lies the same problem.
The treatment works.
The source has a price.
As Margaréta—Maggie to those who know her best—turns inherited knowledge into a system capable of surviving generations, she must decide what her family is willing to become in order to continue existing. Around her grow the people who will shape the Bathory legacy: Fred, János, Eleanor, William and Anne—some choosing the family’s impossible inheritance, others refusing it, and all discovering that living longer does not protect anyone from grief.
By the nineteenth century, Europe is becoming too crowded with records, rumours…and ghosts.
The Bathorys have survived almost everything the old world could do to them.
Now they must leave it behind.
Australia knows nothing about their name.
Yet.

Descrizione dello Store
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book.
