If you’ve ever stared down your inner darkness alone and dared it to blink first, this debut poetry book belongs to you.

“Moving and memorable” — Terri Cheney, New York Times bestselling author of “Manic: A Memoir”

“Annette’s a punk Sylvia Plath. All the emotion, none of the pretence. This collection is sincere. Searing. Surreal. So. Fu*king. Relatable.” — C.E. Hoffman, Punk Monk Press

Behind the Ghost Metropolis is a confessional poetry collection about mental health, trauma, and healing. Annette's evocative black-and-white photography, captured during her travels, mirrors the emotional depth of every poem. Through raw, unfiltered verses, she explores the pain we hide, the loneliness we carry, and the strength it takes to keep going.

These poems speak for those who feel too much, who were told to stay quiet, and who are learning to choose life again. Moving between despair and hope, this collection reminds you that your story is not over—and you don’t have to face it alone.

For readers drawn to the intensity of Sylvia Plath, the blunt honesty of Charles Bukowski, the darkly self-aware voice of Melissa Broder, and the emotional precision of Louise Glück, this book delivers poems that hit hard and linger.

I look right through the light
It fills me with courage and strength
to fight against my demons

I’m not alone anymore
I slowly stand up
