Paperback. In 1882 a notorious outlaw and a childhood friend of Billy the Kid was released from prison where he had been serving time for killing a Texas Ranger. His freedom finally secured, the outlaw disappeared and was never heard from again. Never, that is, until 1948 when he came out of hiding after almost 70 years. In the course of proving his identity to a court of law the outlaw revealed that his friend Billy the Kid was not killed by Pat Garrett but was still alive even to that day. After a period of research and persistence the young lawyer was finally led to a destitute old man in Texas who was named not William H. Bonney but William H. Roberts, although Bonney had been an alias that he had used. Roberts agreed to reveal himself as Billy the Kid if the lawyer would help him obtain a pardon so he could die a free man. You see, the Kid was still wanted for murder so to come forward was to risk being sentenced and put to death, but this was a risk that William H. Roberts was willing to take. He told his story only one time, to one man. This is his story, now presented for the first time with new photographic evidence and research that supports his claim that he was the one true Billy the Kid of legend. Recensione
"An amazing book! It seems to prove that Billy the Kid lived well into the 20th Century. A very, very good read." -Mort Mason
"Well written, very enjoyable book. Highly recommend." -Vernon A. Norris
"We hardly knew ya, Kid. Learned a lot about a subject I thought I knew. Gained insight into the man and the times he lived in. I enjoyed it a great deal." -Stephen Cullen
"After more than 20 years of research and 22 books read, I am surprised and delighted at the new research revealed in Daniel's book. He approaches much of the information regarding Brushy's interviews with a new insight and has uncovered many new facts and documented records that support Brushy Bill Roberts' claim of being Billy The Kid. Billy The Kid was not killed by Pat Garrett in 1881 but rather lived to be almost 91 and was able to finally reveal his identity during the last few years of his life. If you've ever wondered about this story and want to make a decision one way or the other, read Daniel's book. A marvelous effort to shed truth on the story once and for all." -Kenneth Wayne Land
"The truth about Billy the Kid! Ever since I first saw Robert Stack on "Unsolved Mysteries" years ago talking about Brushy Bill Roberts, I wanted to know more about this lie we have been told throughout our messed up history how Pat had shot Bill the Kid dead. This book is great on the truth! Next I want the books on Cattle Kate and Belle Star to see what truths lie within those pages.......Loved this book and recommend it!!" -Mary G. Steffey
