Paperback. "Bituminous Sands of Northern Alberta: Occurrence and Economic Possibilities, Report on Investigations to the End of 1924" is a foundational scientific and economic study of what would become one of the world's most significant energy reserves. Authored by Sydney Clarke Ells, a pioneering engineer and explorer, this comprehensive report documents the extensive field investigations conducted in the early 20th century to map the Athabasca oil sands. The work provides a detailed account of the geological occurrence, topographical features, and physical characteristics of the bitumen deposits found within the McMurray formation. The report delves into the technical challenges and commercial potential of extracting and refining these unique hydrocarbon resources. Ells offers insightful analysis on transportation logistics, potential industrial applications-including use in road construction-and the overall feasibility of large-scale development in the remote northern wilderness. As a primary source of geological data and early engineering theories, this text serves as a critical historical record for professionals in the petroleum industry, geologists, and historians of Canadian industry. It captures a pivotal moment when the strategic importance of Northern Alberta's mineral wealth was first being systematically cataloged for the future of global energy production. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible.
