Born is a Christian discipleship book that explores what it means to live from identity rather than striving, to follow Jesus beyond comfort, and to pass on a faith that reproduces in others. Structured around three movements: Born Identity, Born Ultimatum, and Born Legacy-the book traces a deeply personal yet broadly applicable journey of spiritual formation, surrender, and faithful endurance. The opening movement, Born Identity, centers on the foundational question of who believers are before God. Drawing from Scripture and lived experience, Shreves examines how identity is often unknowingly built on ministry roles, performance, approval, or productivity rather than sonship. Through reflection and narrative, the reader is invited to rediscover identity as something received, not achieved-anchored in being known by God rather than validated by outcomes. Born Ultimatum, the second movement, confronts the cost of living out that identity. Shreves frames discipleship not as an abstract belief system but as a daily decision to choose obedience over comfort. This section explores surrender, perseverance, and the tension between calling and control, emphasizing that faithfulness is often formed in hidden, ordinary obedience rather than visible success. The focus is not on dramatic transformation moments, but on sustained faith in seasons of uncertainty, loss, and quiet rebuilding. The final movement, Born Legacy, shifts the lens from personal formation to spiritual reproduction. Here, Shreves explores how faith is meant to be passed on through proximity, presence, and lived example rather than programs or platforms. Legacy is presented not as notoriety or institutional achievement, but as the faithful transfer of identity, obedience, and trust to others. The emphasis is on discipleship that happens in everyday life-families, f riendships, workplaces, and church communities. Each chapter concludes with a "Born Again Moment", a reflective section designed to move the reader from insight into practice through guided questions, Scripture engagement, and prayer. These elements reinforce the book's focus on formation rather than information. Written in a pastoral, reflective voice, Born is intended for Christians navigating questions of purpose, burnout, transition, or spiritual drift. It speaks particularly to leaders, long-time believers, and those disillusioned with performance-driven faith, while remaining accessible to a general Christian audience.
