Thomas McCadden, a young man from the present day with the rare and wild powers of a Fey Traveller, has been abruptly thrust into the tumultuous world of seventh-century Northumbria. His time-travelling adventure takes a stunning turn when his presumed-dead father, Matthew, unexpectedly reappears. Matthew’s return is not just a shock—it’s a harbinger of peril. Pursued by the fearsome Alder King and his relentless Wild Hunt, Matthew arrives burdened with unresolved mysteries and ominous secrets.
Why did he vanish so many years ago, leaving his family to think he was dead? Why did he keep their Fey lineage hidden from Thomas? And what mysterious forces have brought them together in this chaotic time?
Matthew strives to help Thomas master his unpredictable powers amidst mounting threats, but a tangled web of danger and deceit soon ensnares them both. The long shadows of this ancient age conceal more than just peril; they mask dark truths and plots, including the sinister machinations of the ever-watchful Wulfram, whose raven spies are everywhere.
A shattering event drives Thomas right into Wulfram’s clutches, where he will face his greatest trial yet. Will he find a way to sever the ties keeping him trapped in this era, or is he destined to remain bound by time’s unyielding grasp—and Wulfram’s malevolent will?
Reader Reviews:
I can't turn the pages fast enough! Find a warm spot and enjoy the fantastic journey the writer takes you on. – Matt
The high level of research that L.A. Smith has done continues to make this a rewarding story and a historically interesting one. Wonderfully weaving the history and the fantastic, the past and the present, allowed for me to be drawn in and care about the characters, the story, and the setting. - Sarah
