Mental Health in the Hospitality Industry

The kitchen is a place of passion, creativity, and pride—but it is also a place of relentless pressure, long hours, and silent suffering.

The Broken Kitchen pulls back the curtain on the mental health challenges that define life in the hospitality industry. Written from lived experience, this book explores the realities chefs, cooks, and hospitality professionals face every day: burnout that never fully fades, addiction used to cope with exhaustion, anxiety and depression hidden behind professionalism, strained relationships, and the unspoken cost of always being “on.”

This is not a book of empty motivation or unrealistic solutions. It is an honest, grounded examination of an industry that demands everything—and often gives little space for recovery in return. Each chapter focuses on a different struggle, offering insight, reflection, and practical direction for building healthier habits, boundaries, and support systems.

The Broken Kitchen is for anyone who has ever loved this work but questioned what it was costing them. It is for the people who show up exhausted, push through anyway, and wonder how long they can keep going. Most importantly, it is a reminder that caring for your mental health is not a weakness—it is a necessity.

This book does not promise quick fixes. It offers something more valuable: understanding, clarity, and the reassurance that you are not alone—and that a better, more sustainable way forward is possible.
