Some light wear, primarily to the hinges, corners, and head and tail of spine. Edges of text block dyed red. Marbled endpapers. Light age-toning to interior. Part One with a woodcut title vignette of Hermes and Part Two with a deer. Scarce. Shelved case 3. Apparently unrecorded piracy. Not in Bengesco. Printing and the Mind of Man 204. Published surreptitiously in 1759, that year featured at least seventeen different printings and editions. The second part of Candide is generally attributed to either Thorel de Campigneulles or Henri Joseph Du Laurens, first published in 1760.
