This multi-disciplinary and multi-author textbook,designed for first- or second-year students, introducesthe main concepts, ideas, theories, and perspectives thatform the historical background and foundationof Canada’s interactions with developing countriesin a globalizing world. It discusses Canada’s diplomacyvis-à-vis developing countries and changes in prioritiesover time. It examines Canada’s political, economic,military, social, immigration and aid policies and howthey have interacted with each other. It presentseconomic, political, and cultural dimensions of theprocess of globalization and the ways they affect Canada;examines the public development institutionsand policies, private sector and civil society organizationsin Canada; and explores the moral imperatives behindCanadian international policy. Finally, it examines currentissues, including Canada’s promotion of human rights,democracy, good governance, support to the privatesector, relations with fragile states, and relations withthe emerging economies.
