Neuware - 'Canada's Great Highway: From the First Stake to the Last Spike' provides a compelling firsthand account of one of the most significant engineering achievements in North American history: the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Written by J. H. E. Secretan, an engineer who participated in the surveying and construction of the line, this work offers an insider's perspective on the monumental task of linking the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Canada by rail. The narrative follows the progression of the railway across vast prairies and through the treacherous terrain of the Rocky Mountains, documenting the technical challenges, the harsh environments, and the sheer human determination required to complete the project. Secretan blends professional observation with personal anecdote, illustrating the daily lives of the surveyors and laborers who transformed the Canadian wilderness. 'Canada's Great Highway: From the First Stake to the Last Spike' serves as a vital historical record of the Last Spike and the birth of a national infrastructure that forever changed the geopolitical landscape of Canada. This work remains an essential resource for enthusiasts of railway history, engineering, and the pioneering spirit of the late nineteenth century. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
