Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

An engaging educational resource that combines philosophy, ethics, civics, and critical-thinking instruction through the award-winning editorial cartoons of Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette. Designed for secondary and college-level classrooms, this expanded Second Edition presents twenty-two discussion and debate units covering topics including free speech, poverty, prejudice, religion, gun control, censorship, drug abuse, constitutional rights, political values, and moral reasoning. Each lesson pairs Marlette's nationally syndicated political cartoons with structured discussion questions, research assignments, classroom activities, and 'Mind Builder' exercises intended to develop analytical thinking and respectful debate. Near Fine softcover. Binding is tight and square with clean, bright covers. Interior is crisp, fresh, and unmarked with no writing, highlighting, or ownership markings observed. Light shelf wear and minor age toning to the white covers, with a small bump to the upper rear corner and trivial rubbing consistent with careful storage. No creasing found on the spine. Appears lightly used and remains an exceptionally well-preserved copy of an educational title that often saw heavy classroom use. This is the Second Edition (Revised, Expanded, and Updated), published in 1988 by Trillium Press, as stated on the title page and copyright page. The principal collectible appeal of this volume lies with Doug Marlette (1949-2007), one of the most influential American editorial cartoonists of the late twentieth century. Marlette won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning, the same year this edition was published. His work appeared in Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, Rolling Stone, and numerous newspapers through King Features Syndicate, while his comic strip Kudzu became nationally syndicated. This volume preserves many of his editorial cartoons in an educational context, illustrating how contemporary political art was adapted for classroom instruction during the late Cold War era. Joseph P. Hester (b. 1939) is a retired American philosopher and educator whose work has focused on ethics, philosophical inquiry, and gifted education. Author of Philosophy for Young Thinkers, Hester advocated using philosophical discussion to strengthen students' reasoning skills and moral development, making this volume an early example of inquiry-based ethics education. He earned a B.A. in Social Sciences from Lenoir-Rhyne College (1961), a B.D. and Th.M. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (1964, 1967) and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Georgia (1973), where he served as a teaching assistant in philosophy and a research assistant with the Georgia Studies of Creative Behavior.
