Le relazioni appartengono ai concetti filosofici fondamentali, perché tutto ciò che esiste si riferisce a qualcosa. Questo ci porta naturalmente a pensare alle relazioni stesse. Nel nostro libro consideriamo le relazioni sullo sfondo della questione del cambiamento. Attingiamo alle tradizioni aristoteliche ma anche platoniche del pensiero, che da secoli hanno cercato di venire a patti con la tesi di Aristotele che non c'è cambiamento rispetto alle relazioni. Esaminiamo criticamente e alla fine respingiamo questa affermazione certamente sorprendente. Come parte della nostra soluzione a questa difficoltà, proponiamo una particolare ricostruzione dello schema categoriale aristotelico che ci consente di cogliere correttamente non solo i cambiamenti ordinari ma anche i cambiamenti relazionali. Il libro è di natura sistematica; in dialogo con molti grandi filosofi, cerchiamo una vera soluzione alle nostre difficoltà, utilizzando in particolare le risorse della filosofia analitica contemporanea.
