How Does the Church Answer Addiction? presents a biblical vision of addiction that goes far beyond substance abuse and destructive behaviors. Rather than treating addiction as merely a medical, psychological, or social issue, this booklet identifies it as a spiritual problem rooted in idolatry-the pursuit of created things in place of the Creator. Every addiction promises what only God can truly provide, making the Cross of Jesus Christ not simply one solution among many, but God's original and ultimate answer.

Drawing from Scripture, including Elijah's confrontation with the prophets of Baal, the booklet shows that addiction is fundamentally a battle for the human heart. While secular approaches may encourage behavioral change, they cannot resolve humanity's deepest problem: alienation from God. Only the gospel of Jesus Christ provides forgiveness, reconciliation, a new heart, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.

How Does the Church Answer Addiction? calls the Church to reclaim its biblical responsibility to lead people from the darkness of addiction into the light of Christ. It emphasizes that all believers stand on level ground before the Cross and can minister to those struggling with addiction because every Christian understands the reality of sin, idolatry, and God's grace.

Rather than settling for recovery alone, How Does the Church Answer Addiction? distinguishes recovery from biblical transformation. God's purpose is not simply to restore people to a former condition but to conform them to the image of Christ. True freedom comes through repentance, faith, the authority of Scripture, the power of the Holy Spirit, and life within the body of Christ.

Published especially for Crosstalking, How Does the Church Answer Addiction? equips churches to respond to addiction with confidence, compassion, and biblical truth. It challenges believers to exalt Christ as the only lasting answer to addiction and calls the Church to once again become the place where people discover not merely sobriety, but redemption, discipleship, and lasting transformation through Jesus Christ.
